Position:

Steep, elevated valley just above the rugged shore, in wild, magnificent country where mountains meet the sea.

Description:

Straggling group of old buildings clinging to the steep slope; not picturesque but charming, and superbly situated, surrounded by agricultural terraces and orchards. Ancient settlement which traditionally made its living from the land and the sea. Straddles the serpentine coast road which carries relatively light traffic.

Suitability:

Ideal for resting or rambling; mainly for couples of independent disposition.

Accommodation:

3 hotels, all friendly, family-run establishments.

Shopping:

Gift shops with a good range of ceramics. Food stores. Bank, chemist.

Beach:

Two small pebble beaches in a little cove which serves as a fishing port.

Entertainments:

Daytime: walking but little else in resort. Nightlife: disco in the summer.

Eating:

Half-a-dozen bars, including a beach bar (summer only). Restaurants and a snack bar.

Public-transport:

Daily bus Palma to Estellenchs; 4 a week Paguera to Valldemosa.

Local-excursions:

Andraitx (Wednesday market); Valldemosa, Deya; Soller and its port; Palma.
