Position:

Rocky, SE-facing coast with wooded hills behind, it is just beyond the furthest extremity of the metropolitan area of Palma and Cala Mayor.

Description:

The contrast with Cala Mayor is striking; Illetas is off the main road, picturesque and verdant with intensively landscaped and terraced gardens. Its winding loop road is one way, so navigating mistakes are punished with a lengthy circuit; it is also congested with smart cars, especially in summer.

Suitability:

This is the nearest presentable resort to Palma and it attracts business and convention bookings, especially in the low season. Also, upmarket couples and families who like the proximity to the city and its facilities, including golf courses.

Accommodation:

Very little with a rating of less than four stars. This is a resort of smart hotels, a very swish village complex, and relatively few apartments.

Shopping:

Very little here; the choice begins at the main road in the direction of Palma, » ml. from the centre.

Beach:

Small sandy beach beneath low cliffs, well-equipped and intensively used. In addition there are several tiny coves, often collared for the exclusive use of the hotels.

Entertainments:

Daytime: Bendinat golf club is just uphill from here; Son Vida about 8 miles. Lido at the main beach. Nightlife: tends to be sophisticated.

Eating:

The hotels operate their own restaurants, some of which are of excellent quality. There are more humble local establishments and greater variety at easily accessible Palma and Cala Mayor.

Public-transport:

Palma bus picks up at points in the village; 15-20 min. intervals. Some lines originate a short distance away, on the main road at Ca's Catala, covering the coastal run to Paguera and Andraitx.

Local-excursions:

Palma and Marineland are closest; Soller and the N coast attractions of Valldemosa and Deya are also easily accessible. Operators run trips to most of the farther flung attractions as well.
