Position:

On undulating ground above tall limestone cliffs indented with coves. Undeveloped W side; E side crowded with villas and bars.

Description:

A tourist resort, but with more architectural variety than most, and even something of a village atmosphere. Many private villas, some of them quite grand.

Suitability:

Would satisfy most, but with perhaps a tendency to cater best for the under 50s.

Accommodation:

Relatively few hotels and apartment buildings in middle and budget categories.

Shopping:

Plenty of basics available locally; much more in nearby Mahon.

Beach:

Very large, dramatic, sandy beach protected on three sides by high cliffs. Access, by stairs or longer road, requires some effort.

Entertainments:

Daytime: some interesting caves and prehistoric stone structures nearby. Nightlife: a disco located in one of the caves.

Eating:

Decent choice of Spanish restaurants and some fast food.

Public-transport:

Seven buses a day to Mahon.
