Position:
Close to (adjoining) its bigger, brasher neighbour, Playa de las Americas, on a S-facing bay backed by parched hills.

Description:
Much more resort than fishing village, it expanded considerably in the 70s and 80s. A pedestrian promenade, with pavement cafes, runs the length of the shore and harbour; a few brightly coloured fishing vessels survive. Unappealing, unplanned high-rise growth has sprouted up behind.

Suitability:
Families, couples; mainly self-caterers. Less brash than its neighbour but hardly highbrow.

Accommodation:
Middle-range apartments, some hotels.

Shopping:
All basics including chemist, post office, food stores. Gift shops.

Beach:
Rocky shore with small, unappealing beach near port; larger artificial stretch towards Playa de las Americas.

Entertainments:
Daytime: deep-sea fishing; leisure port; sports centre. 18-hole golf course between resort and Playa de las Americas. Nightlife: disco; more within a half-hour walk.

Eating:
Good selection; varied local, international fare.

Public-transport:
Good and frequent through-resort service; buses to Playa de las Americas » hourly.
