Position:

NE-facing bay, surrounded by low, barren headlands, approached through pine woods.

Description:

Purpose-built, low-density, low-key resort with many private villas and apartments. Coastal and rural surroundings are quite pleasant, but there is nothing here of great interest other than the beach.

Suitability:

Predominantly a family resort with the accent on beach and poolside relaxation.

Accommodation:

Post '85 low-rise apartments and two hotels.

Shopping:

Three supermarkets and a couple of souvenir shops.

Beach:

Very good and safe, wide beach of golden sand, with dunes behind. Pedalloes, windsurfers for hire.

Entertainments:

Daytime: 9-hole golf course; club is º ml from main part of resort and also has tennis and a driving range. Nightlife: occasional evening entertainments here also, though the hub of activity is at hotel Sol Parc, and Wilsons bar. Do not travel with expectations of glamorous nightlife.

Eating:

A dozen restaurants and bars in commercial centre, serving up a predictable range of resort fare.

Public-transport:

Two buses daily to Mahon in one direction, Fornells in the other.

Local-excursions:

Shopping and sightseeing in Mahon and Ciudadela; cruises to picturesque coves; ascend the hill of El Toro for views; nearby fishing village of Fornells.
