Position:

Indented coastline with salt flats beyond.

Description:

Purpose-built resort, modern and well-planned with palm-dotted promenade, broad tree-lined avenues. Easy to get about. Some unsightly industry, including a desalination plant, between airport and resort but overall a notch up from Puerto del Carmen.

Suitability:

Beach-based holidaymakers who can survive on fairly limited nightlife.

Accommodation:

Mainly apartments in their own grounds, medium-sized and moderate quality. A couple of high class hotels. Practically all have ample car parks.

Shopping:

Large variety resort shops, supermarkets, in centre.

Beach:

Broad and crescent shaped, of fine light sand. Protected by a stone breakwater. Two large beaches, two small, separated by a headland.

Entertainments:

Daytime: 18-hole golf course 3 miles. Windsurfing, scuba centre, sailing and other water sports. Horse riding centre. Water park (open daily). Nightlife: limited action concentrated in hotels and apartments; 1 nightclub; disco; casino at hotel Oasis.

Eating:

Wide choice of restaurants, pizzerias, bars, mainly in Pueblo Marinero (resort centre). Few fast food outlets; good quality international cuisine including Chinese and Mexican.

Public-transport:

Service from Arrecife to Teguise, hourly.
