Description:
An established tourist resort which started life as a fishing village but now offers every type of holiday facility. Despite the huge influx of summer visitors, Kassiopi remains very much a working village. The harbour is very picturesque and the ruins on the headland date from Roman times.
Suitability:
A lively resort, attracting mixed clientele, but without the antisocial behaviour sometimes found in larger resorts.
Accommodation:
Preponderance of apartments, in the village centre and scattered throughout the surrounding countryside.
Shopping:
The locals spin, weave and dye thread by hand. Rugs, hand-made lace and embroidery are a speciality.Nightlife: 3 discos and plenty of bars, including cocktail and video bars. One or two locals' bars have survived.
Beach:
Shingle and pebble bays on either side of the harbour provide safe swimming but involve a walk of at least 300 yds by stony footpath. Imerolia Beach is » mile from centre.
Entertainments:
From tavernas to sophisticated restaurants.
Eating:
Good bus service, eight times a day, to Corfu Town; also to Ipsos, Dassia and Nissaki.
Public-transport:
Boat trips to Paleokastritsa and Paxos; shopping in Corfu Town; by boat to deserted bays along the coast, or to the islands of Othoni, Mathraki, Erikoussa. See also Corfu Town.
