Position:

Situated on the E coast between the resorts of Lindos and Rhodes Town. The village of Afandou is hidden from the beach by hills.

Description:

A traditional Greek village which is now slowly becoming more commercialised. You can still sit in the village square and watch the world go by.

Suitability:

Really only suitable for independent travellers.

Accommodation:

Basic accommodation in small hotels and apartments.

Shopping:

A few shops in the village catering for the locals with the odd tourist shop for souvenirs.

Beach:

Long stony beach with crystal-clear water, with only a few sun beds and umbrellas. A long walk from the village.

Entertainments:

Beach or reasonably-priced 18-hole golf course by day; small selection of bars ranging from cosy quiet ones to noisy ones with disco.

Eating:

One of the only villages on the island where you can still sample traditional Greek dishes. A few sandwich and fast food bars.

Public-transport:

Very limited public transport to Rhodes Town. Taxis only really available during daylight hours. Minitrain journeys from centre to beach via a few of the larger hotels.
