Position:
In a protected, sandy cove deep within the beautiful Gulf of Valinco.

Description:
This small town rises higgledy-piggledy from an active yachting and fishing port up the slopes of a bare, rocky hillside. The original core of grey granite buildings is now mantled by an outrage of discordant apartment blocks, hotels and shops that are limited to 4 or 5 storeys. Driving is difficult, and for the visitor unnecessary.

Upmarket and middlemarket.

Accommodation:
An agreeable mixture of standards giving access to sea, sand and sun for everyone.

Shopping:
Standard souvenir shops, small provincial supermarkets, some old-fashioned shops lingering on for the local consumer. Local food market.

Beach:
Choice of magnificent sandy beaches right in town and within walking distance; also across the bay.

Entertainments:
Daytime: water and beach sports; horse riding; tennis. Nightlife: cafes, discos.

Eating:
One or two fish restaurants, good range of small restaurants.

Public-transport:
Daily bus service to Ajaccio.

Scenic coach trips to impressive prehistoric site of Filitosa, picturesque Bonifacio, Ajaccio and dramatic mountains. Day and half-day boat trips. Thermal springs at Baracci (3 mls) and Caldane (12 mls).
