Tourist strip, with restaurants, shops, follows main through road. Old village with natural spring is just above. Several steep tracks descend to beach.

Suitability:
Broad appeal; has more of a rural village atmosphere than most on this coast, but a steep climb up from beach.

Accommodation:
12 hotels offer 1,000 beds, mainly in the middle category.

Shopping:
Basics; clothes; tourist trinkets. No local specialities except honey.

Beach:
Very long and narrow, broadening to S, of light coarse sand, clear waters.

Entertainments:
Country rambles. Music bars and hotel entertainments by night.

Eating:
Reasonable number of predictable Greek restaurants, most of them along the main road.

Public-transport:
6 buses daily, Paliouri to Thessaloniki and back.

Local-excursions:
Mount Athos boat trip from Ouranopolis; sightseeing/shopping to Thessaloniki; Classical Tour to Pella and Veria (full day); exploring some of the inland and fishing villages; caves of Petralona.
