Description:

A traditional Greek fishing village which has developed into a resort without losing its charm.

Suitability:

Couples, singles and older visitors.

Accommodation:

A couple of small hotels but mainly self-catering or pension-type rooms.

Shopping:

A few tourist shops and minimarkets.

Beach:

A narrow shingle beach in the centre of the village, plus the Paradise pebble beach nearby. Good snorkelling; facilities are not ideal for families with young children.

Entertainments:

Daytime: mainly beach activities or exploring the island by car. Drogorati Cave and Melissani Lake are easily accessible. Nightlife: centred around the cafes and tavernas.

Eating:

Traditional Greek tavernas with home cooking; a few serve international dishes.

Public-transport:

Regular bus service to Argostoli.

Local-excursions:

Island tour; Olympia; marine wildlife tour by boat. A daily ferry service runs to the nearby island of Ithaca, the home of Greek mythology.
