Position:
Perched on a hillside just below the main S coast road, which twists down through the neighbouring village of Vlachata into Lourdas village and terminates on the beach at the bottom of the hill.
Description:
A rural village relatively unspoilt by tourism, with a small square and one of the best beaches on the island. There are lovely views across to the nearby island of Zante on clear days.
Suitability:
Couples, families or singles _ not suitable for the elderly or the unfit due to its location. Car hire would be advisable.
Accommodation:
A couple of good hotels and a handful of small self-catering blocks.
Shopping:
A couple of minimarkets and a souvenir shop.
Beach:
3 miles long _ a mixture of gently shelving sand and white pebbles.
Entertainments:
Daytime: beach life or exploring Kefalonia by car. Nightlife: centred on the local tavernas.
Eating:
Several tavernas offering a choice of mainly Greek _ but some international _ dishes. A couple of beachside tavernas serve fresh fish daily.
Public-transport:
Regular bus service to Argostoli town or S to Skala and Poros.
Local-excursions:
Island tour including Drogorati Cave and Melissani Lake; Ithaca; Olympia.
