Position:

Description:
Moraitika has grown from a rather bustling, small town to a lively, rather anonymous resort, much of which is purpose-built. The usual variety of run-of-the-mill amenities can be found along a 1,000-yard stretch either side of the main coast road; the long shingle and sand beach lies 500 yds E. Some fenced-off Roman ruins beside the main road serve as the resort's only historical site.
Suitability:
Less frantic than Kavos, it suits families and couples as well as the young and energetic. Attracts a mix of nationalities, including Hungarians, Germans, British and Dutch.
Accommodation:
Mainly small hotels and apartments; lots of budget establishments, with a few mid-range options. Much of the accommodation is located along a quiet road near the beach.
Shopping:
Limited to the necessities: beach supplies, minimarkets, the usual souvenir shops and a few clothes shops. A couple of gold shops, a shop selling local wine and a bakery. Two medical centres and pharmacies. Cashpoint but no bank; currency exchange in shops.
Beach:
Long, relatively narrow shingle and sand stretch sloping at water's edge. Backed by snack bars, it seems far removed from the commotion of the centre. Parasols and sunbeds for hire; pedalloes and some water sports available. Parking is limited.
Entertainments:
Daytime: centred on the beach; diving centre for trips and courses. Go-karting. Nightlife: varied selection of bars, pubs and tavernas, many with Greek nights, quiz nights, karaoke, etc. A disco.
Eating:
Wide choice of tavernas and anglicised Greek menus, as well as some pub food. Lots of full English breakfasts on offer.
Public-transport:
Regular coastal bus service, S to Messonghi and Kavos or N to Corfu Town via Benitses. Scooter and mountain-bike rental. Car hire.
Local-excursions:
Boat trips available; otherwise as Corfu Town.
